Alternative Breaks (AB) is a program within the Center for Community Engagement that sends small groups of UT students to outside communities around the United States to help individuals grow as leaders and learn about social justice issues through immersive service experience. Alternative Breaks is great for students who are passionate about social justice looking to spend their holiday break on a productive and interactive service-learning experience.

Welcome to AB!

Comfort Ajiboye

"My experience in Mexico City was such an eye-opener in seeing cross-cultural translation of environmental practices. As someone who saw themselves as environmentally conscious, this trip enabled me to better understand how our little everyday habits affect how we interact and affect our environment. Despite it seeming like a problem out of an individual's control, this trip has empowered me to know the significance in simply educating oneself and practicing important concepts such as composting from my very home. I encourage everyone to take a step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves through these trips to grow in becoming an active citizen."
